Here’s how Mooncat, our (sadly) retired blog founder described our mission in 2012, on our 5th birthday:
But the real bonus of a community blog (and, mind you, we pay extra and deal with extra hassle so there will be a free, progressive, “online printing press” in Alabama) is that anyone can share his or her thoughts here.? The posts I love best are the ones where folks (like BoyHowdy) tell us about their conversations with legislators on a particular bill, or someone shares a personal experience that is likely to affect all of us, or tells us about a candidate he or she likes.? Have an idea for a better law?? Bring it on!? Know something other progressives need to hear about?? Get on your soapbox and tell us about it!? Have you attended a meeting with your legislator?? Or a great event? ? Give legs to that experience by sharing it with a bunch of like-minded people … including people you’ve never met who will find your story through search engines like Google..? Ditto if you have a great idea of how something ought to be done better … progress, you know.? Or know of an upcoming event that would interest like-minded folks.
Thanks to all of you who have joined the conversation over the years — well over 2100 at the blog and more than 3100 on facebook.? Most of all, heartfelt thanks to all of you who have participated by writing and sharing your thoughts here.? We’re stronger and more effective together than we are on our own.? Please remember that this is a blog for the Alabama progressive community –and please keep up the forward thinking conversation!
If enough of us persevere, we really can make Alabama a better place to live and work.
Mooncat wrote this when we were still using the Soapblox blog platform, something that made it easy for anyone to create an account and start writing. ?In 2015, Soapblox shut down & we had to migrate to WordPress. ?That made things more difficult. We still welcome (and encourage) anyone to comment and submit articles. Use the?“Contact” link to find out how to start writing!
Remember, we’re all volunteer. Unlike some right-leaning blogs in Alabama, we aren’t funded by lobbyists or industry or by the state party.
Your purchase and/or donation helps us keep paying the bills.
Is it worth it?
